Operation Get Tree Standing

We don't know which one of us had the brilliant idea to throw out our perfectly good Christmas tree stand when we left Toronto on the Big Adventure, but you can bet we were regretting it when we finally got our darling tree home.

So we figured, hey, if our parents could build a tree stand out of a couple of two-by-fours and an ice cream bucket, why can't we?

Well, I'll tell you why we can't. We had no idea what we were doing.

With no plan, several nails and screws and some wood we farmed from the recycled materials bin at the school of architecture, some duct tape and a glass or six of wine, we set out to make our very first homemade tree stand.

Maeby had some good advice... but she's hard to understand at the best of times.

In the end, she took on more of a supervisory role.

With bucket firmly affixed, it was time to apply it to the stand.

That's where it got difficult...

We think it worked out very nicely.

Until we watered the tree... and inadvertently watered the rest of the living room floor.

It's amazing what duct tape will do. :)

Et voila!!

Merry Tree!
